Strettle Street, Thornbury
Strettle Street is a proposed development of three townhouses. The site is on a prominent corner with clear views of the city to the south. A number of site constraints dictated the need for a single driveway and consolidated car parking beneath two of the units. By excavating the car parking into the site the visibility of the garaging from the street is minimised.
The design utilises a restrained palette of natural and prefinished materials chosen for their low maintenance, durability and appropriateness within the streetscape.
The repetition of materials and elements such as windows lends a cohesiveness to the design, whilst the subtle use of colours provides some individuation between dwellings. The long street frontage gives prominence to the landscaping which has been designed as a layered interface between the dwellings and the street.
