St George’s Road, Thornbury

St George’s Road is a proposed development of eleven townhouses on a corner site. A development overlay on the site permits a greater height than the surrounding context and the design responds to this with a vertical typology of townhouses of various sizes and layouts.

The design features a material palette taken from the surrounding built form. The provision of a basement car park allows for the required number of car spaces and improves the activation of the street frontage.

The largest dwellings are located along the southern frontage with generous balconies and roof terraces oriented to take advantage of views to the city. To the north of these dwellings, smaller dwellings are oriented around north-facing courtyards.
