Ireland Street, West Melbourne

Ireland Street is a proposed development of eight townhouses. The site is an irregular shape with frontage to a street and a laneway to the rear. From the site there are potential views to the south of the central business district.

Each townhouse comprises bedrooms to the ground and first floors. The top two levels include living spaces and associated balconies to capitalise on the potential views from the site. Car parking is consolidated within a basement carpark accessed from the laneway. A common courtyard provides a dual frontage and enhances light and ventilation within each townhouse.

The development utilises a mix of lightweight claddings to mitigate the perceived mass of the development. The use of horizontal blades to prevent overlooking contribute greater depth to the facades. The combination of pitched roofs and the staggered arrangement of the townhouses enhances the dynamism of the overall composition.
