Grange Road, Alphington

This 8 townhouse project features four 4-bedroom dwellings and four 3-bedroom dwellings on a site of 1085 square metres in Alphington. The site sits across two properties with an east-west orientation. The orientation of the site and the desired yield provided the two main design challenges. The design features a basement car park with double lock up garages for each townhouse, while the units to the south feature roof decks to maximise the northern solar access.

The internal floor plans have been configured to preserve the internal amenity between the units and large areas of glazing have been used to increase the feeling of space by maximising access to light.  The external elevations present a simple language and repetitive form that references Robin Boyd and leverages a contemporary mix of materials to deliver a modernist and restrained aesthetic.
